On account of our experience with lightweight structures, Fenton Holloway were appointed to design the first large-scale structural use of a PVC-coated high tensile wire mesh: a screen cladding system for the 25m-tall domed structure of the Newhaven Energy Recovery Facility. The project required working closely with the specialist contractor to develop a bespoke installation system with shaped brackets and flashing plates to simplify work at height. Extensive material tests had to be undertaken, and a full mock-up panel was designed and detailed to test the system and check the erection process.
