Restoration
The historic Shoal of Fish mural by artist Alan Boyson features 16 ceramic fish in a sea of marble and terrazzo seaweed. It dates from 1961 and was originally intended to be a decoration for a rooftop balcony outside the Skyline Ballroom in Albion Square, Hull. The mural was built onto a brick wall on the upper floors of the building, which was due to be demolished as part of a multimillion-pound redevelopment of the area.
Bespoke Lifting
We were commissioned to advise on the temporary works required to safely remove and preserve the mural, which had to be restored and later reinstated in the new building once construction works were completed. We designed a bespoke lifting frame for the mural and the associated brickwork wall, which enabled the careful removal and craning of the artwork.
