Scheme & Detailed Design
Fenton Holloway were appointed to undertake the design of the Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy Arena, a 66m-span fabric-covered structure to house a full-size indoor football pitch. The tensile fabric roof is supported on a series of curved steel trusses, with valley cables running along the centre of each bay to control the tension in the fabric.
Fenton Holloway were responsible for both the scheme and detailed design of the structure, developing an efficient solution which also met the client’s functional and aesthetic requirements. A special emphasis was put on the coordination with the architect, in order to provide bespoke solutions for the interfaces with the adjacent academy building. We also worked alongside the contractor during construction phase, developing all the construction details and providing practical and cost-effective alternatives.
